A new piece for an exhibition this summer. It's a treat to use this hand spun, hand woven Eri silk from @cuckoolooms. My first NAMA (@northamericanmyco ) North American Mycological Association) event was to cook Matsutake Japanese dishes for 120 people with @chadateit. I was in the kitchen for 2 whole days and have no photos of the food I made.....😅 but after work, I was able to go hunt in the famous Oregon Dune for Matsutake and cook for friends at home. The dishes I cooked for the event was: Matsutake Udon, chicken teriyaki with candycap, wood ear mushroom and cucumber salad, shiitake and broccoli, green salad with miso dressing, matcha Kanten with candycap cream with candies chanterelle. The photo for after event dinner was fries Udon with soy glazed porcini, rock cod with miso glaze. #Mushroom cooking #matsutake

Teaching at Aikuma has become my annual event. 3 workshops were all full so 30 people went home with these beautiful scarves.
The difficulty in teaching in Tokyo is collecting the leaves. This time I was lucky I came across the pruning men!

Fresh leaf indigo dye. I had several volunteer persicaria tinctoria growing in my garden. It's not really enough to dry or do anything but perfect for fresh leaf dying. The beautiful blue will change to green when I do my botanical printing but some silk organza scarf will stay this blue ! #botanicalcontactprint #ecoprintingonfabric #indigodyed #indigodyeing #indigofreshleafdyeing

The main purpose of this Langtan Nepal trekking trip was about mushroom dye. I was able to test dye 3 different species. In particular the new mushroom for me was Pycnoporus zanthapus. It's red polypore but wasn't sure if it will dye. It certainly did!!

Did a bundle dying in Nepal while trekking in the Langtan region for 7 days. We were able to use local marigold and other flowers and lichens that I brought. Challenging to bring all the materials to the trek but we managed using minimum tools and low impact. Persimmon is very cultural in Japan. While hachiya persimmon can be eaten crisp, Fuyu has to stay till it's soft to eat. But if you make hoshigaki, it stores for a long time and actually the sugar concentration is higher than Hachiya so it ends up super sweet dried.
I like to make this every year but this year I was able to cut perfectly from my friend's garden and I have a perfect place to hang. Such a fall scenery. #persimmon #handmadefood #driedfruit #hoshigaki #countrylife
